If you live in Northern New York or other areas ravaged by the Ice Storm you know the kind of damage it did. If not you may not realize the extent of the Ice Storm's wrath. It is hard to put into words what it was like to be in a town covered in 2 inches of ice so here are some pictures that say more than a thousand words. I will add much more as I develop more pictures and obtain more information about the Ice Storm of the Century.

Clayton, NY - My back yard

The storm was so bad it threw my tub right out the window! Just kidding.  The tub is part of a future fountain.  Notice how the branches are forked over the pole bean trellis in the background.

Clayton, NY - Route 12 (State Street)

If you look closely you might notice three or more telephone poles in the middle of the road.  They just snapped like matchsticks and cut off many towns from outlying areas.

Cape Vincent, NY - Near Thousand Islands High School

pole.jpg (20616 bytes)

The NIMO workers used quick thinking to get the North Country back to normal.  To return power to the school they just bolted the pole back together (click here for a close-up).

Alexandria Bay, NY - A bench near E.J. Noble Hospital

bench.jpg (20921 bytes)

Notice the coating of ice on the bench.  My mother saw 28 Niagra Mohawk Power trucks on the 10 mile stretch home from work.

Wellesley Island, Fineview, NY - A lucky boathouse

boathouse.jpg (46264 bytes)

This boathouse was nearly crushed when my great-aunt's tree was uprooted from the wieght of all the ice covering it.  Notice how the branches went through part of the dock closer to shore.

Wellesley Island Park, NY - Transformers downed by the ice

trans.jpg (23988 bytes)

Trees and telephone poles were not the only things the ice brought down.
