I finally started to build my own SOF kayak. Borrowing a basement and tools, and with some luck I will have a new addition to my paddling fleet this fall.
I am following the plans of H.C. Peterson in his book, Instruction in Kayak Building. The dimensions he uses throughout his book match closely to what I calculate for myself. Using Chris Cunningham's book, Building the Greenland Kayak: A Manual for It's Construction and Use, has made the process easier and clarified many questions.
Pages will be updated on Thursdays as my work progresses. It won't be fast as I only work one day per week. This is not intended for instruction, rather for my non-paddling friends who really wonder what I am talking about.
