Augur Lake, a small lake located in the Northeast corner of the Adirondack Park, has been battling Eurasin Milfoil since the early 1970s.

After reviewing and trying a variety of solutions(please see TIMELINE), the Augur Lake Association began a program using sterile Triploid Carp, a weed-eating fish used for years in the south to curb the growth of non-native weeds. It is a possible solution for smaller lakes capable of achieving a carp density sufficient to maintain weed cover below levels detrimental to optimum lake use.

Although used for years in the southern states, the use of carp is in its infant stages in upstate New York, and faces a new set of issues in the environmentally sensitive Adirondack Park.

The primary purpose of this site is to contribute to the growing body of information on non-native invasive weeds in freshwater lakes, and in particilar Eurasian Milfoil.

We welcome any comments and would direct you particularly to respond to these requests for inromation.

It has been our experience that much information... ,,,particularly about Tripoid Carp is anecdotal and often contradictory. If you have answers to the questions below, please cite the source.
