The Landmark Theater in Syracuse, NY. This is an ornate theater that has been undergoing restoration. On the day I was there workmen were removing the old carpeting. This entryway was shot from an upper balcony, looking down upon workers as they piled up the old carpet into a heap. The place was very dark. I placed two 3500xi flash units at the end of the upper balcony, pointed downward toward the heap of old carpet. One flash at the left of the balcony and one at the right. I then used the 5400xi flash mounted on the camera hot shoe, set in the Wireless Controller mode so that the 5400 would trigger the remote 3500's. The 5400xi flash would act as a fill light because it would be shooting directly into the shadows created by the two remote 3500xi flashes. The photo shows the result, shot with the 9xi camera, a 28mm f2.8 lens, in the P Program mode. Once again, this photo highlights the Program mode of operation, the mode I call the No Brainer mode.
What is the lesson here? Simple: Shoot in confidence with this system in the No Brainer mode. Why in the world do you think Minolta went to the trouble to develop it? To make lighting and shooting great pictures EASY. Some people resist progress. They have awesome built in features in their cameras that they do not use because they don't trust them, or they feel it is not "professional". Listen up, the stuff is there, USE IT. I have allready tested it out. It works. It saves you TIME. You come home with the photos. Your boss or your client will like you because you get the photos. He or she ( or HeShe) doesn't care if you used a dozen Vivitars on manual and metered them with a flash meter.
