Some Notes About the 700si Camera
by Gary Walts
The 700si is another fine camera from the Minlota folks. It is not the same as the rugged workhorse that the 9xi is, however, it has some nice features that the 9xi does not have. I own both cameras. People often ask me which camera they should buy, the 9xi or the 700si.
Well, they are two different animals. My prefernce is the 9xi. It is faster in all respects (auto focusing, film advance). The 9xi is FAR more rugged than the 700si. The 9xi is probably more versatile, offering more for the imaginative photographer, such as unlimited multiple exposures that can be racked up at 4.5 frames a second. Very few cameras are capable of that!
There are a couple of items though, that the 700si has that the 9xi does not, among them are:
- The 700si can sync flash at it's maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 sec. when used with the 5400HS flash. (the HS designates High Speed synch).
- A built in pop up flash (handy, but I really would would not want one on the 9xi).
- A focus lock button on the camera back that works with all lenses. (I wish the 9xi had that!)
- The Vertical Contro Grip allows use of either 4 double AA batteries or one 2CR5 battery in the same battery tray. I like that!
