Field Notes

 Rabbits

Rabbits are small furry mammals with long ears. Rabbits dig underground tunnels called warrens. The depth of the tunnels depends on the type of soil and the depth of the water table. The female predominantly does the tunneling.

Rabbits are herbivores; they eat a wide variety of grasses and meadow plants.

Rabbits are normally nocturnal, but will come out of their warrens in daylight if undisturbed.
